Another busy month for the Michels

We started the month with our trip to Chicago. Then we went camping (and survived a monsoon storm while sleeping in our van one night!). We had a weekend at home and then we went on a mini vacation... just Brad and I, which we haven't done since our honeymoon (yeah, really!), down to Cincinnati for a Reds game and Brad's 29th birthday.

Brad won the trip from work at their annual employee event, so it was all-expenses-paid. They rented us a super fancy car (a Chrysler 300, which I checked and it retails for around $40K!) and we drove down. We stayed in a 4 star boutique (read: old fashioned) hotel that was walking distance from Great American ballpark. Our seats for the game were 8 rows from home plate and in the "Diamond Club".... which was just incredible. We got there and were told to go DOWN in the elevator to "field level". Then we were escorted into an area that looked more like a fancy dining restaurant. We stood there, mouths agape, not sure what we were supposed to do. Brad stopped a waitress and asked how much it would be to partake in the yards of buffet that lined the walls. She replied with "it's all included in your ticket... the bar too". So Brad and I had some super gourmet food (Brad ate a rotisserie beef/steak thing, I had shrimp gazpacho and seafood pasta) and took full advantage of the open bar. Our seats out in the park itself were leather padded. No joke. We had a waitress and a full menu of other things to choose from, again, all included. So now we see how rich people go to ballgames, and we are probably ruined for Clippers games at Huntington Park here at home from now on.

Now it's back to our regularly scheduled bland old lives. Sometimes being treated as a VIP is a bad thing because you get home and realize that life isn't that fancy all the time. It's kind of a letdown. But we're happy to be home, back with our boy and our pooch and all our stuff. Brad and I did decide that we have the best mattress in the world, when even 4 star hotels can't compete with it.

Zach did great while we were gone. He enjoyed talking to mommy and daddy on the phone and had a blast with his grandmas. He is pretty much day trained for potty now, which is a dream for me. We still have accidents, but they are becoming fewer and further between. For the most part, accidents are just because he is being lazy and doesn't want to leave what he's doing to run to the potty, which is par for the two year old course.  I have also sold off my entire cloth diaper stash (for the most part, still waiting on some buyers for a couple other diapers). I figured we aren't using them anymore, and it was time to get them in the hands of someone who would.

So that's about all that is or was exciting for us lately.

  1. Sounds like a blast! The day I sell off my diapers will be an emotional day. We are going to start Potty Training on Chris' next days off.
