One year!

(Pic from today as Zach enjoyed a piece of string cheese. Mommy used hair wax and did his hair in a "faux-hawk" because his hair still sticks up from his cut last week. Plus he looks super cool!)

Sorry this post took so long to get up. I tried to do it yesterday, but blogger was down all day, and then when I went to do it today, I figured I'd just wait until after his doctor visit so I could put in all the stats.

Anyway, our boy is officially a toddler now. Strange! This year went by so fast for me personally. I keep telling my mother that if my pregnancy had gone by equally as fast, we'd be well on our way to another baby by now. Alas, this is not the case!

We had a fun weekend with Zachy's birthday party on Sunday. He got lots of cool toys including two motorcycles (neither of which was from his Grandpa Joe oddly enough!), his very own lawnmower that blows bubbles, and a membership to the Zoo. We used said membership on his actual birthday yesterday to take him for a day of fun at his favorite destination. More on that in a minute. His party was a lot of fun. Mommy made a doggie themed cake with a dog house mini cake that was Zach's very own. He had a lot of fun tasting it! His new toys take up most of our living room now. We are probably going to store away some less played with toys for a while, to keep things fresh.

Then, as I said before, we took him to the Zoo for his actual birthday. We got to see the new polar bear exhibit (although not the cool part where they can swim over top of you because the bears were exploring the grounds rather than swimming at the time). Of course, Zach's favorite was the aquarium. We also rode the carousel for the first time, which Zach liked until it started to move. We got lots of fantastic pictures! That Zoo membership is going to get a LOT of use this summer and fall for sure!

Let's see, one year old stats. He weighed 18 lbs 5 oz (3rd %), is 28.5 inches tall (15th %) and has a 18.5 inch head (70th %). Lots of room for that big old brain of his, right? He did get two shots today, and wasn't a fan of those for obvious reasons. The doctor said all food restrictions are lifted now (basically all that was left was honey), except for things he could choke on, and to let him guide us as to what he wants to eat. We are keeping him rear-facing in his car seat thanks to new American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations (they now say wait until at least 2 to turn them around), and of course the fact he's not 20 pounds yet either. Zach seems alright with this, except that he still hates being buckled in at all. He also managed to get his 6th tooth on his actual birthday, bringing our total to six--four on top, two on bottom. We think some molars may be making an appearance soon, but it's almost impossible to tell until he bites one of us!

Finally, what you all came for, PICTURES!

Zach's cake (the dogs are plastic but everything else is edible)

The first bite of cake... he decided he'd go whole-hog on it!

A really cool pic of Zach at the aquarium since you can see his reflection in the tank.

Riding the carousel... this was taken before it started moving, because he's still happy.

Topping the day off with a polar bear friend to take home from Mommy :)

Happy Birthday little dude! We love you so much! Thanks for making us a family a year ago!
